I miss Kevin.

I have sat down many times to start this blog, but didn’t know where to start. So, I guess I’ll just write what comes to mind. I miss Kevin.

Kevin Lawyer left this earth on March 21, 2008. But like Jordan told me on the night that he passed, with tears rolling down my face, “Dad, even though you can’t see Mr. Kevin, he will always be in your heart.” She is so right.

Kevin was a wonderful man, an extraordinary husband, and an awesome Dad, and above all, an example of Jesus Christ.

When I first heard of the accident, my heart broke. I couldn’t catch my breath and the tears flowed. My thoughts went out immediately to his wife Suzie and his six kids who he loved more than life. The news came to me as I was wrapping up an evening with my high school kids at our weekly YFC meeting. They all watched as the biggest guy they know wept like a baby.

The days that followed have not been easy. Images of Kevin in the different rolls he played in life played in my mind like clips from a movie. Professor wonder, Myth buster, Jordan’s orthodontist, coach. I would see glimpses of him worshiping at church with hands raised, or rapping at our Break Away retreat, or smiling as I took a snap shot on our trip to Chicago.

I miss Kevin. I miss his smile. But I KNOW, I will see him again one day. As Dawn drove the girls to church on the Sunday after the accident, a song by Audio Adrenaline was playing. Big Big House. The songs talks about heaven and how great it will be. It talks about ……..”a big big yard, where we can play football…….” Jordan called from the back seat, “Mom, I bet Mr. Kevin is playing football right now.” Once again the tears flowed as Dawn retold the story to me. I can’t wait till the day, when I can lay down a block for Kevin, as he runs in for a touchdown. But until then, I will continue to look at the good that has and will come from this tragedy.

Romans 8:28
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
